Papertrey June Blog Hop

 I'm finally getting to participate in a Papertrey Blog Hop this month! Yeah! Our challenge this month

was to use the above photo as our inspiration to make a card.

I  just love these colors and to me, they translate into Aqua Mist, New Leaf, and Harvest Gold/Lemon Tart. The flowers in the large pillow reminded me of the new Natural Beauties flowers. I stamped the background with two of the flowers in Natural Beauties in Aqua Mist and Harvest Gold. Then I stamped the large and small main flowers in Aqua Mist/ New Leaf and Harvest Gold/Canyon Clay. The yellow was picked up in my flower embellishment and background and ribbon. I had this luscious yellow ribbon in my stash. So without further ado, here's my card:

Felt hexagons

Ok, I admit it - I have an addiction to hexagons!!! I've really been enjoying seeing what all you can do with the hexagons and the cover plate from Papertrey. Being a quilter, I guess it's pretty normal for me to love the quilt combinations. Then I started thinking about how soft and cuddly quilts are, and I thought "Maybe I'll try to create a felt hexagon quilt!"
  I began by cutting the cover plate out of Hawaiian Shores, Aqua Mist, and True Black PTI felt. One of the colors came out perfectly, the other two required alot of careful snipping. When I was finally done, I laid the black negative out on my desk and arranged the Aqua Mist and HS felt hexagons within the framework until I liked the combination. I was going for a bold graphic color choice - sort of along the Amish line. I adhered the completed "quilt" on the front of a piece of black cardstock for stability, then adhered that to the Aqua Mist card base. It is soooo soft to touch! I really like how it turned out, but I'm not sure how many of these I'll make - it was alot of work! Maybe just a little embellishment here and there...
   Anyway, hope you like it - these pictures really don't do it justice - you have to be able to run your hand over it and feel it's softness to really appreciate it. On a side note, I just couldn't bring myself to put a sentiment on the outside of the card and cover up my handiwork, so I just included it on the inside. Let me know what you think - Thanks!

More Happy Hexagons

Hello! I have been cutting alot of hexagons in the past few days using my new Hexagon cover plate from Papertrey. Although I have amassed a ton of the little hexagons, I also have several of the negative cover plate die cuts too. It was bugging me to have all them just sitting around, so I decided to cut them apart into individual shapes to accent the front of a card. If you've ever seen a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt like this:
That's kind of the look I was going for with my card accents. I loved Audrey's card here and the way she inked the edges of the hexagons! It gave the pieces so much more dimension and reminded me of an old quilt. I just love two color quilts, so I went with a red & white color scheme. I added stitching around the edges to continue the quilt theme. I double inked the sentiment to give it a sort of shadow effect and to warm it up a bit. Getting the placement of the shadow is going to take some practice. Anyway - hope you like it!

I used PTI white & berry sorbet cardstock, Melissa Frances patterned paper, PTI Happy Hexagons cover plate, sentiment from PTI Beautiful Butterflys, tea dye duo ink, berry sorbet ink.

Very Happy about Happy Hexagons!

Hello! I received my Papertrey June release order today and it included the Happy Hexagon stamp set and cover plate. I couldn't wait to dig in, so I did! I cut out six different patterned papers from Melissa Frances with the cover plate - which gave me tons of hexagons to work with. Did I mention that I am a quilter? Hexagons make my heart flutter :). Anyway, I knew I just wanted to use the hexagons along one side of the card, so I lined up the negative cut out of the cover plate and set to work adhering the different hexagons. I really like the added dimension the patterned paper hexagons give the cards. The first card I fooled around with the small triangles on the ends - decided that was too much work after the first card. Anyway, with all those lovely hexagons sitting around, I went ahead and made three more cards. I used Think Big Favorites for the sentiment, and the medium scallop die for the bottom edge of the card. I sewed a small zig-zag stitch around the edge to continue the quilting theme. I just love how they turned out - hope you like them too!

Papertrey Make It Monday #70 - Puffed Fabric Accents

Hello! I was able to complete a card for the Papertrey Make-it-Monday challenge this week. Seems like I just can't put down the new Papertrey Flipping Out set. I pulled some polka dot fabric out of my stash, and whipped up this card using Erin Lincoln's method on her video here.
I used the Flipping Out set and dies, the Button Boutique set and Button Card die, fun foam, fabric swatch, the In the Meadow snowdrift dies, a CuttleBug embossing folder and some fun Adornment twine. The flip flops came out pretty good, but it was difficult to adhere the thin section between the two shoes. It's still is raised up and puffy, so I'm happy with it. Hope you enjoy it too.

Father's Day cards

I have been working on the Father's Day cards I need for this year. Last night I made two cards for my son-in-laws. One has two children, and the other is awaiting the birth of their first child, so his card sentiment is a little different. I used Papertrey's Banner Builder set and dies, the Fresh Alphabet set, patterned paper for the Argyle Socks collection, and the sentiment from My Hero, My Dad set.

I had to  selectively stamp the sentiment from the second card to get it like I wanted it. The "You're", and "gonna be" are from Big & Bold Wishes, and the "a great dad!" is from the My hero, My Dad set.

 I have two more cards to make - for my husband, and my father-in-law. I'll post them when I'm done. Thanks for looking!

A few more cards

Hello! I have finally gotten around to photographing a couple of the cards I've made lately, and I thought I would post them.
First up is a card using my new chevron dies from Papertrey. I cut chevrons out of several different patterned papers and glued them to a piece of white cardstock. Then I cut the chevrons apart into strips for accents on my cards. This card uses Wise Owl - a Papertrey stamp set, My Minds Eye papers, and glossy accents on the owl's eyes and belly. :)  Hope you enjoy it!

The next card is a result of playing with glitter. :) I was trying to recreate JJ Bolton's card here, only using brighter colors. It was alot of work, and every time I look at it, I end up getting glitter on myself. So when I was at Michaels the other day, I picked up some glitter paper, and cut rainbows out of each color. I have enough "bows" to make several more rainbows now! This was alot less messy than the actual glitter, although it's not quite the sparkle. I used My Mind's Eye papers, Papertrey cloud dies and vintage cream felt, a sentiment from Papertrey's Movers and Shakers Sentiments set, and My Favorite Things rainbow die.

So many possibilities with Flippin Out dies!

After cutting out the Papertrey Ink Flippin Out Dies using felt to make bedroom slippers,

I was thinking last night about another medium to cut using the dies... How about thin cork? I just happened to have some on hand - I got it at a local scrapbook shop called Impressive Ideas in Roswell GA while I was on vacation. I think they are my favorite medium yet for the flip flops!

I used a tutorial by (Sorry - I just can't find the link for the tutorial - I will keep searching to find it) to make the sunset, and got ideas from Debbie Olson here for the water and sand (although I don't have a copic airbrush - just tried using sponges) Hope you like it!
